Barbados will join the world in hosting Global Money Week this year for the very first time.
Organised by Barbados Children Directory, the aim is to use Global Money Week to reach school aged children and youth through visits to schools and discussions to bring awareness to promote a financially wise generation.
The week will be opened by a church service on 26 March and on Monday 27th March, secondary schools will be addressed by a finance professional during their morning assembly.
Early on the 27th, there will also be a session by a prominent financial figure on the ‘Mornin Barbados’ locally TV programme
During GMW, financial businesses will open their doors to encourage students to come in and learn, see and understand how business is done and what is required.
Also during the week, there will be on air discussions with the general public with specific emphasis on the importance of getting young people financially wise. Furthermore, primary school children will compete in a ‘Money Box Challenge’ and the winners will be receiving start up saving accounts.
At the close of the week there will be a ‘Discussion’ where the panelist will be financial professionals who will take questions from the youth and there will be opportunities for the youth to have one and one chats or in groups with business people. ‘The Discussion’ will be opened to all youth and those participating will receive brochures and information to help them remain financially focused.
The Money Boxes will be presented at ‘The Discussion’ for judging and the winners announced at that time.
