For the second time, Global Money Week was celebrated in Vietnam under the leadership of the National Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG) – and this year, State Bank of Vietnam has also shown support in raising awareness to strengthen the financial literacy for young people.

The National Vietnam Microfinance Working Group arranged financial education sessions with children in Hanoi. Using materials co-developed with Aflatoun, the financial education sessions also gave the children the opportunity to share their thoughts and motivations for saving. Most of the sessions established that children’s primary motivation for saving is to support their family and themselves, in order to be able to finish their studies..

Representatives from State Bank of Vietnam were also present during the sessions, to present the role of the central bank in ensuring that all Vietnamese people can live in a financially stable country. Moreover, the representatives from the State Bank of Vietnam participated in some interactive activities and games with the children.

Global Money Week was celebrated for the first time in Vietnam thanks to the initiative of the National Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG) and the support of the State Bank of Vietnam. Starting small this year, the National Vietnam Microfinance Working Group highlighted that the most important area to highlight for young Vietnamese is to develop interest to learn more about financial literacy, improve their attitude towards finances, and encourage them to potentially become an entrepreneur.

With this as the objective, the Vietname Microfinance Working Group launched a programme to inspire young people by showcasing success stories of local and international Vietnamese entrepreneurs that they would be able relate to. The interactive session were organised for youth with young and old entrepreneurs from across the country who started saving from a young age.
